Machine repair for printing plants

Printing presses, whether offset, flexo or rotogravure, depend on many motors staying in step with each other. Web tension, register and speed are all held by drives, encoders and a control system, and when one of them drifts, the result is wasted substrate long before the press actually stops.

The faults that come up most are drive and tension problems: a dancer or load cell giving a bad signal, a drive tripping during acceleration, register marks wandering because an encoder or sensor is dirty or failing, and dryer or UV systems that lose output. Post-press machines such as folders, laminators, slitters and die-cutters add their own clutch, brake and pneumatic faults.

  • Clutch, brake and pneumatic repairs
  • PLC and HMI faults on press controls
  • Dryer and heater control repair

03 / A typical fault

A fault pattern worth knowing

Register that drifts only as the press speeds up is rarely a print problem. A slipping encoder coupling, a sensor with a dirty lens or a drive whose speed loop is tuned too soft lets one unit fall slightly behind under acceleration. Watching the register error against press speed on the control usually shows which unit is lagging.

05 / How it works

What happens when you get in touch

  1. 01Call or WhatsApp us with the machine, the fault code if there is one, and where the plant is.
  2. 02We match a technician who works on this kind of equipment, and they review the code before setting out.
  3. 03On site they make it safe, diagnose, and tell you what has failed and what the repair involves before starting.
  4. 04After the repair they run the machine with you, and you sign off a job card and get a report for your records.

06 / Questions

Printing: common questions

Can you work on imported presses with no local service support?+

Often, yes. The drives, PLCs, encoders and sensors inside most presses are standard industrial parts, so they can be diagnosed and repaired even where the press maker has no local service. Manuals and electrical drawings help a great deal if you have them.

Our web tension keeps hunting. Where do we start?+

Check the load cell or dancer signal first, then the tension controller's settings, then the drive response. A noisy or drifting sensor signal makes the controller chase a tension that isn't really changing.

How do we get a technician for a breakdown in a printing plant?+

Send the machine, the fault code or symptom and the plant location by WhatsApp or phone. We match a technician who works on that equipment and tell you who is available and when before you confirm.

Can we set up scheduled maintenance instead of calling for breakdowns?+

Yes. A planned maintenance schedule covers the machines you choose, with visit frequency set by how much each machine's failure costs you.

What happens if parts are needed during a repair?+

The technician lists the parts needed and the sourcing options before anything is fitted. Parts are quoted separately from labour.
