Control panel or breaker keeps tripping?

Likely causes, what our technicians check onsite, and how to get it fixed — verified engineers across India, onsite in hours (under 4 in Hyderabad), 24/7.

01 / Overview

Control Panel Keeps Tripping

A breaker or panel that trips repeatedly is doing its job — something downstream is drawing fault current, leaking to earth, or overloading. The wrong response is to reset it harder or uprate the breaker; the right one is to find what's tripping it, because the protection is the messenger, not the fault.

We diagnose control, power and MCC/PCC panels — tracing nuisance trips to the actual short, earth fault, overload or failing component, and repairing at component level with proper testing before re-energising.

02 / Diagnosis

Likely causes

The handful of things that actually cause this — in the order we rule them out.

DX_01

Earth / ground fault

Insulation breaking down to earth in a motor, cable or device causes leakage that trips an ELCB/RCD or earth-fault relay. We megger circuits to locate the leakage.

DX_02

Short circuit

A dead short in wiring, a device or a motor terminal box trips the breaker instantly on energise. We isolate section by section to find it safely.

DX_03

Overload

A genuinely overloaded circuit or motor, an under-rated breaker, or a mechanical load problem trips the overload/thermal element. The load, not the breaker, is usually the issue.

DX_04

Failing protective device

An aged MCB/MCCB, a faulty overload relay or a mis-set electronic trip unit can nuisance-trip below its rating. We test and calibrate before replacing.

DX_05

Loose / hot connection

A loose termination heats up and can trip thermal protection or cause arcing. Thermal inspection finds hot joints before they fail outright.

What our technician checks

A methodical path to root cause — not a scattergun of part swaps.

  1. 01Identify which protective device is tripping and its trip type
  2. 02Megger circuits to locate earth faults and insulation breakdown
  3. 03Isolate and test sections to find shorts safely
  4. 04Measure actual load current against device ratings
  5. 05Thermal-inspect terminations and test the protective device itself

Frequently asked questions

The breaker trips the moment I switch on. What does that mean?+
An instant trip on energise almost always means a short circuit or a hard earth fault downstream — a dead short in wiring, a device or a motor. We isolate the panel section by section and megger to locate it safely, rather than resetting into a fault.
Can I just fit a bigger breaker to stop the nuisance tripping?+
No — uprating the breaker removes the protection that's warning you of a real problem and creates a fire and equipment risk. We find the earth fault, short or overload that's tripping it and fix that, so the correctly-rated protection can stay in place.
