01 / The work

What servo drive repair actually involves

Servo faults are feedback faults far more often than they are power faults. An encoder alarm, a position deviation error or an unexpected overcurrent usually traces back to the feedback path — a damaged encoder cable, a flat absolute-encoder battery, electrical noise coupling into the feedback line, or a resolver that has drifted.

Because the drive, motor, encoder and mechanics form one loop, the fault is isolated across the whole loop rather than at the drive alone.

02 / Scope

Servo Drive Repair on site

Feedback Diagnosis

Encoder and resolver testing, feedback cable and shielding inspection, absolute-encoder battery and reference recovery.

Amplifier Repair

Power-stage and control-board repair, with the motor and cable tested separately so the real fault is not replaced twice.

Tuning & Commissioning

Gain tuning and following-error correction after repair, so the axis returns to its original accuracy.

Questions we get asked on site

The faults that bring us out most often, and what gets checked first.

What does a servo encoder alarm actually mean?+
That the drive has lost confidence in its position feedback. Causes run from a damaged or poorly shielded encoder cable, to a flat absolute-encoder battery that lost the reference position, to electrical noise from a nearby drive coupling into the feedback line, to a genuinely failed encoder.
Why is the axis reporting a position or following error?+
The axis could not keep up with its commanded position. That is either mechanical — binding, a seized bearing, an unreleased brake — or electrical, meaning insufficient torque, incorrect gains, or feedback the drive cannot trust. The mechanics are checked before the gains are touched.
Is the fault in the drive or the motor?+
Isolate the loop. Test motor winding resistance and insulation, inspect the power and feedback cables, and where possible swap in a known-good axis. Replacing an amplifier that was reporting a motor fault correctly is the most common wasted repair on servo systems.
