Common faults
What usually fails on Industrial PCs & Networking
Won't power up
A failed internal power supply or DC-DC converter, or a motherboard power fault.
Storage and boot failures
Worn-out hard disks, SSDs or CF cards. The data can sometimes be recovered and the system cloned to new storage.
Overheating and fan failure
Clogged filters and failed fans cause shutdowns and slow, unstable operation.
Display and touch faults on panel PCs
Backlight, LCD or touch screen failures, as on operator panels.
Network and interface faults
Dead Ethernet ports, fieldbus cards or serial interfaces, and failed industrial switches.
First checks
What to check before calling an engineer
Isolate and lock out the supply, and wait for stored energy to discharge, before opening anything.
Safe for plant staff
- Note any BIOS beeps, error messages or LED codes.
- Check fans and filters.
- Back up data and licences if the unit still boots.
Leave to a specialist
- Motherboard and power-supply repair.
- Cloning or recovering the system disk.
- Moving software licences to new hardware.
Warranty. Repairs carry a warranty of 30 days to 6 months, depending on the item and the repair; the exact term is confirmed before work starts.

Can the software on the industrial PC be kept?+
Yes, where the storage is readable. The original disk can be imaged before any work, and the system restored onto healthy storage if the drive itself is failing.
