Common faults
What usually fails on a unit like the FLOWIRL 8700
Operator panels and industrial displays fail in the touch screen, the backlight, the power section or the memory that holds the application. Most of these can be repaired with the screens and recipes kept.
Touch screen not responding or drifting
Worn or cracked touch glass, or a failed touch controller. The touch layer can usually be replaced on its own.
Dim or blank display
Failed backlight or backlight inverter. The panel still runs, which can be confirmed by touch response or communication.
Panel won't boot
A failed power section, corrupted memory card or flash, or a damaged mainboard.
Communication loss with the PLC
A damaged serial or Ethernet port, or a configuration problem after a power event.
Lines or patches on the screen
LCD panel or ribbon connector faults, often after impact or heat.
Display and touch
Display faults are usually in the backlight, the LCD, the touch layer or the display driver. These are repaired separately, so a cracked touch screen does not mean replacing the whole unit.
First checks
What to check before calling an engineer
Isolate and lock out the supply, and wait for stored energy to discharge, before opening anything.
Safe for plant staff
- Note whether the panel powers up, shows anything, or responds to touch.
- Check the supply voltage at the panel.
- Back up the application project if the panel still runs.
Leave to a specialist
- Replacing touch glass, LCD or backlight.
- Restoring or transferring the application.
- Board-level repair of the mainboard or power section.

FAQ
FLOWIRL 8700 repair questions
Will the screens and recipes on the Forbes Marshall FLOWIRL 8700 be kept?+
Repairs to the touch screen, backlight or power section don't affect the application. If the mainboard or memory has failed, sending the project file lets it be restored.

On most panels, yes. The touch layer is replaced and calibrated, and the rest of the panel is tested before return.
Does the Forbes Marshall FLOWIRL 8700 have to be sent in, or can an engineer come to the plant?+
Either. An engineer can diagnose it in place and repair it there or take it away, or the unit can be sent to MachineryFix from anywhere in India. The diagnosis and repair cost are confirmed before any work starts.
