Single dead inputs or outputs after a short or surge on field wiring. The module is repaired and every channel tested.
CPU faults and lost programs
A CPU stuck in stop or fault mode, or a lost program from a flat memory battery. Keep a current backup of the program.
Communication module faults
Loss of the network to drives, remote I/O or the SCADA system, with the CPU itself healthy.

Intermittent module faults caused by the rack, connectors or vibration rather than the module.

- Check field wiring for shorts before fitting a replacement module.
